An ex-Marine haunted by way of a tragic past, Tommy Riordan (Tom Hardy) returns to his hometown of Pittsburgh and enlists his father (Nick Nolte), a recuperating alcoholic and his former coach, to train him for an MMA tournament awarding the greatest handbag in the historical past of the sport. As Tommy blazes a violent path towards the title prize, his brother Brendan (Joel Edgerton), a former MMA fighter not able to make ends meet as a public faculty teacher, returns to the newbie ring to supply for his family. But when Brendan's unlikely rise as an underdog sets him on a collision direction with Tommy, the brothers should finally confront the forces that tore them apart, all the whilst waging the maximum intense winner-take-all combat of their lives.
