In Scotland 1874, Jack is born on the coldest day ever. Because of the extreme cold, his middle stops beating. The accountable midwife in Edinburgh unearths a manner to shop him by replacing his middle with a clock. So he lives and stays beneath the midwife's protective care. But he should not get irritated or excited as a result of that endangers his existence by causing his clock to stop working. Worse than that, while he grows up, he has to face the reality he cannot fall in love as a result of that too might stop his refined heart.
